A Message From Matt & Winston
As many of you know, Hawaii Life produced a conference series over the last decade called The Worthshop Series. It started on Hawaii Island in 2011 and ran consecutively every year thereafter, until 2017, when we took a year off. Then we hosted it again on the Big Island in 2018. The Worthshop Series was always available to the public, with speakers and attendees from all over the country. They’ve been very extroverted affairs, to say the least.
We realized the power of taking a year off in 2017, and we’re doing that again this year.
However, every year on the day before Worthshop, we’ve always hosted ‘Hawaii Life Day’ in the same venue. Hawaii Life Day, or ‘HL Day,’ as we’ve come to call it affectionately, started as a way for the ‘back of the house’ to share what they were up to with the ‘front-of-the-house.’ To talk about the year just passed (Worthshops have always been in December), and the year to come.
HL Day is an intimate affair — and it’s the kind of event that produces uncanny results, really just by all of us showing up for half a day or so.
In years past, we’d have presentations from each “department” (to use a very corporate word). The Creative Team might share success stories and products in development. Our Customer Experience team would talk about lead generation and best practices. The Hawaii Life Charitable Fund would share the good work that they’re doing. We might hear from the Transaction Management Team or Zack Wright from Christie’s. And, if we were lucky, we’d get a VIDEO (password is ‘team’) from the accounting department that helped us contextualize the incredible volume of transactions they actually process.
Even though 2019 is an “off” year for Worthshop, we’re still going to host HL Day. But instead of just hosting it on one island, we’re going to tour the islands and host it on each island. Think of it as the HL Day Tour.
Of course, each event will be a little smaller than usual (even though the whole company is invited to all of them)... and perhaps a little less produced, since there won’t be a major conference immediately to follow… but we’re looking forward to getting everyone together to talk about the company: where we’ve been, where we’re going, and what we’re looking forward to.
We’re going to let each day’s agenda be revealed as we get closer to the HL Day Tour, but please know that the most important aspect of these meetings is really our collective attendance. There’s enormous potential and opportunity generated just by us all getting together. And of course, we’ll have a get-together afterward to celebrate the New Year, the new decade, and our Hawaii Life.
Matt Beall & Winston Welborn,
Hawaii Life
